Unexplained Infertility & Acupuncture

Anyone experiencing trouble conceiving knows how deeply this impacts a couple. With every new menstrual cycle and a negative pregnancy test, you grieve for the baby you don’t have. Statistics show that up to 25% of all infertility cases are unexplained which can be the most emotionally challenging, because there are no answers. Couples may long for an explanation, because they feel that if there were a diagnosis, then there could be a cure. But how do you fix something when tests show that nothing is broken? However, something is obviously wrong when month after month, a pregnancy isn’t achieved.

Acupuncture Works specializes in the treatment of fertility issues, including unexplained infertility. One of our patients struggled with unexplained infertility for years. All of her testing and her husband’s came back “normal” including:

  • Egg quality and number of eggs

  • All hormone levels including FSH and thyroid

  • Thickness of endometrium

  • Fallopian tubes were unblocked

Since acupuncture looks at the body as a whole, we were able to establish a pattern in her symptoms some which seemed unrelated, but were an underlining cause of her infertility. She was treated with herbs, acupuncture and taught fertility awareness methods and food therapies. We were able to work on the underlining cause and give her hope that she could become pregnant. Our treatment focused on raising her basal body temperature and warming her uterus to create the best environment for implantation. Additionally, her husband was treated with herbs as well to boost sperm count and motility. She says:

When you first visit your acupuncturist, you will immediately know that this place is different. It is a calm oasis from the chaos that fertility patients sometimes feel. We will check your tongue and pulse to determine which systems need to be optimized. In addition to acupuncture, we offer herbal medicine, nutrition, understanding of Basal Body Temperature (BBT) charting, cervical position and mucus. Needle points will vary, depending on the patient and may include lower stomach points for stimulating ovulation or a heat lamp for warming the uterus. Soothing music will be selected for you and we may recommend certain visualizations during treatment.

We will tailor a treatment protocol specific to you and your needs, which will take place over an approximately three month time frame.
